Release Date and New Details for Final Fantasy VII Revelation Are Now Clear
Final Fantasy VII Revelation now has a release date, platforms, and key gameplay details, including Highwind exploration, FITS, Cid, and Vincent.

The long-awaited announcement for Final Fantasy VII Revelation made the game’s release date, platforms, and most important gameplay details visible all at once within a single day. With the new reveal, the game will launch on April 8, 2027, and will be available on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A new video released during the same presentation also showed not just the date, but what is changing on the content side as the series heads into its final chapter.
Release date and platforms were confirmed in the same announcement
The new date is now the clearest information available about the game so far. Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch in both physical and digital editions. On PC, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC were also confirmed. It was also announced that pre-orders are now open for the physical and digital versions, while digital pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 will begin at a later date.
The announcement also positioned the game as the final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series. The story that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will conclude with this game. As the series structure moves toward its end, the new footage naturally shaped expectations not only around the date, but also around the gameplay.
What the new gameplay footage showed
One of the biggest highlights in the newly revealed footage was its expansive open-world structure. Players will be able to travel across the planet aboard the Highwind airship. Exploration does not stop there. Piko, the chocobo, will be used in this chapter both as a mount and as a battle companion. It was also shared that Piko will grow stronger alongside the party and learn new abilities over time.
The combat system has also been significantly expanded. The FITS system, short for Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear, introduces uniforms that can be customized for different playstyles. Four special FITS were revealed: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner. This system is said to meaningfully change how party members are used. The new details also included playable characters Cid and Vincent. In addition, players will be able to switch active characters and party formations at any time while exploring the open world.
